Farmers' markets operate in every type of community across British Columbia: cities, suburbs and rural communities. Shopping at your local farmers' market is good for you, your family, farmers, and the environment. It's also a whole lot of fun for the entire community!
It's Saturday morning, and colourful tents dot the market site on Montrose Avenue in Historic Downtown Abbotsford. Local produce growers, small-scale food producers, and creative artisans have just completed the finishing touches on their booths, and not a minute too soon. The shoppers have arrived, browsing among the aromatic baked goods and vibrant salad greens, the colourful handmade soaps and harvest-fresh apples. A local band breaks out in song.
Launched in July 2004, the market enjoyed the most successful farmers' market inaugural season in southwestern BC and continues to build on that momentum. The 2008 summer season will operate 22 Market days beginning May 17 and wrapping up on October 11th.
The Abbotsford Farm & Country Market brings together community partners to present a true 'make it, bake it, grow it' farmers' market in the heart of downtown Abbotsford. Visitors can expect the offerings to change with the seasons, moving from spring produce like local berries, flowers, plants and shrubs to a staggering range of fresh veggies including such exotics as tomatillos to Fall bounties of beets and other root vegetables, pumpkins, apples, and fresh cranberries.
