2014 Farmers' Market Awards

And the winners are.....

Farmers Market of the Year Award Winners:


The winning markets were selected from the 21 nominated markets. The review panel considered how each farmers’ market added value to their communities and connected producers to consumers through fresh, local foods.

Farmers’ Market Manager of the Year

Ingrid Baron of the Vernon Farmers’ Market was selected as market manager of the year. Ingrid has been involved with farmers market for nearly 20 years, as a vendor and now manager.  Since taking on the role of manager three years ago, Ingrid “has lifted the spirit of the market,” explained Dave Doran, President of the Vernon Farmers’ Market. Passionate about the importance of the make, bake, grow philosophy, Ingrid has implemented new and innovative procedures over the past few years. Her dedication and hard work have paid off as the market has grown to an astounding 185 stalls during the summer season.


Farmers’ Market Vendor of the Year

Mackin Creek Farm (Rob Borsato & Cathie Allan) was selected as vendor of the year.  The certified organic farm, along the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, has been operating since the late 1980s.

Owners and managers, Rob and Cathie, are also founding members of the Quesnel Farmers’ Market and have served on the Board of Directors for many years. Warm, hardworking, supportive, and committed to providing quality fresh product, Makin Creek Farm are a great example of what it means to attend a farmers' market in BC.


Farmers’ Market Volunteer of the Year

Greg Faraci was selected as volunteer of the year for his outstanding contributing to the Powell River Open Air Farmers’ Market.  Greg is being honoured for his warm personality, gentle spirit, and connection to the farmers’ market community.
