  1. In 2006, a survey of 7100 market customers conducted by the University of Northern British Columbia found:
    • The economic impact of farmers markets is pegged at over $118.5 million.
    • British Columbians spend $65.3 million directly at farmers' markets and an additional $53.2 million at neighbouring businesses on market days.
  2. Most food sold at BC farmers' markets travels less than 300 kilometres (far less than the average 2,400 km travelled by most foods consumed in North America).
  3. Currently there are over 105 farmers markets in every region of the Province and the numbers are growing as more folks want to eat healthy wholesome food and to meet the producers who are growing their food!
