Local Flavours, Familiar Faces!

Farmers' market vendors are independent business people who make, bake or grow your food. Some of these folks make their entire living from the products they sell at farmers' markets. For others, selling at farmers' markets is a hobby gone wild! All of our vendors are passionate about the foods they grow and deliver to you.

Gambell Farms, a Proud Vendor at the Kelowna Farmers' Market

A Bit of History

In 1963, a young and eager Pearce Gambell started farming on Bond Road in Lake Country. In 1975, he and his wife, Penny, purchased the "cherry orchard" at 12133 Okanagan Centre Road.

Over the last 30 years Gambell Farms has been satisfying customers with top quality fruit. Throughout the past few years Gambell Farms has been striving to diversify with new types of fruits and vegetables to allow the fruit stand to stay open longer through the season.

Today, the orchard is run by Pearce and Penny, with the help of their children. Together they tend to 34 acres of fresh fruit and vegetables. Gambell Farms is strongly supportive of sustainable living, growing fruit and vegetables for healthier lifestyles in our community and beyond.

Gambell Farms grows top quality fresh fruit from July through to October. This summer enjoy smokey saskatoons, a variety of sweet cherries, apricots, raspberries, peaches, summer plums, pears and apples.

Baked Apple:

Wash and core all 4 apples. Place in a buttered 8" x 8" baking dish. Mix butter, cinnamon, brown sugar and raisins in a small bowl. Spoon the mixture into the cored out centers of each apple. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes at 400°F until apples are soft. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Summer Peach Smoothie:

Peel the peaches and cut into pieces. Combine all the ingredients in a blender. Reduce to a smooth purée. Serve chilled in a tall glass!

Karen Brandson — Wyndson Farm, Abbotsford

Wyndson Farm / Karen Brandson - vendor

We live on a hobby farm in the Bradner area of Abbotsford. From a young child, I have always loved to make things. I started selling my items at the Mt. Lehman Country Market 11 years ago, and was involved for many years in the operation of that market. I am currently a vendor at the Abbotsford (Saturday) and White Rock (Sunday) Farmers' markets, and have been a director in both organizations. I offer for sale a wide variety of jams and jellies, many made with our own, naturally produced fruit. I also have a large display of sewn items, including heavy-duty shopping or book bags, as well as aprons, tea cozies, and bibs. I grow flowers, which are sold in arranged bunches, and also sell herbs, particularly basil, as well as salad greens and arugula. Any extra produce or fruit from our garden is brought to the market, including plums, apples, pears and potatoes. Look for our wild blackberries (not roadside!) in August.
